Your first stop is the famous Ait Benhaddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This ancient kasbah has been a filming location for several Hollywood movies, including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. Take a guided tour of the fortified village, wandering through its narrow alleys and admiring the traditional earthen architecture. After lunch, continue your journey to Ouarzazate, often called the "Gateway to the Sahara" and home to the Atlas Film Studios. You’ll drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing through the lush Skoura Oasis, dotted with ancient kasbahs. As the day draws to a close, you’ll arrive in Kelaat M’Gouna, a town known for its rose festival and rose water production. Stroll through the town and perhaps visit a local rose distillery.
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll depart from Kelaat M’Gouna and head deeper into the Moroccan countryside, making your way toward the Dades Valley. Known for its dramatic rock formations and lush greenery, the valley is a photographer's paradise. You’ll have time to take in the beauty of the winding road known as the “Dades Serpentine” and enjoy a short stop for panoramic views of the region. Next, you’ll travel to the majestic Todgha Gorges, a series of limestone cliffs that rise up to 300 meters. Take a stroll through the narrow canyon and enjoy the cool air and stunning scenery. The gorge is a popular destination for rock climbers, and you may spot some scaling the cliffs. In the afternoon, continue your journey through the Ziz Valley, famous for its palm groves and traditional Berber towns. You’ll arrive at the edge of the Sahara Desert by late afternoon, with the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi coming into view. In Merzouga, you’ll leave your vehicle behind and embark on a camel trek into the desert. Experience the magical silence of the Sahara as you make your way across the golden dunes. Enjoy a breathtaking sunset before arriving at your desert camp. At the camp, you’ll be welcomed with traditional Moroccan mint tea. Settle into your Berber tent, and later, enjoy a delicious dinner around the campfire. The night is spent under a blanket of stars, with the vast desert stretching out around you.
Rise early to witness the sunrise over the Sahara, a truly unforgettable experience. After breakfast, you’ll ride your camel back to Merzouga, where you’ll meet your driver and continue the journey north. The drive takes you through the Ziz Valley, where you’ll pass through the ancient town of Rissani, the birthplace of Morocco’s ruling dynasty, and through the traditional market town of Erfoud, known for its fossils. Your journey will lead you into the Middle Atlas Mountains, a region of striking landscapes, dotted with cedar forests and picturesque villages. Stop in Midelt, a charming town situated between the High and Middle Atlas ranges, for lunch. Midelt is known for its apple orchards and mineral wealth. After lunch, continue your journey through the stunning Cedar Forest, home to the native Barbary macaques. You may have the chance to feed the friendly monkeys and take some photos amidst the towering cedar trees. As the landscape changes, you’ll arrive in Fes, one of Morocco’s four imperial cities. This ancient city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its well-preserved medina and vibrant souks. The evening will be at leisure, allowing you to explore the city’s atmosphere or rest after a long day of travel.
On your final day, after breakfast, you will have a morning guided tour of the Fes Medina.
